AKAA PARIS 2023
Fidel Évora | Keyezua | Kwame Sousa
The proposal of MOVART for this year’s edition of AKAA Paris features the works of Fidel Évora, Keyezua, Kwame Sousa and Mário Macilau. Comments on cultural iconicity and hybridisation, migration, the expressive capital of the portrait and the body, as well as visions of the daily between optimism and denounce come to the forefront in the dialogue this show poses.
Fidel Évora (Cape Verde) uses screen printing and photolitography on a unique and rupturist mode of working the medium based on a multi-layered aesthetics, to convey portraits of non-existent but digitally rendered individuals that stand for a reflection on the conflictive clashing nature of social classes and the physical distance between them.
Keyezua (Angola) sets out to uncover the poignant narrative of immigration through a captivating figurative photography series centred around the protective embrace of immigrant fathers.
Kwame Sousa (São Tomé) is orienting his painting towards a figurative style that is nonetheless still heavily supported by the vibrancy of colour that portrays a celebratory vision of African daily life, on a moment where the continent is undergoing a rapid economic and social expansion.
