Reframe in Time
Evan Claver I Gabriella Marinha I Gegê Mbakudi I Gilda Barros & more
The exhibition title Reframe in Time is inspired by the central theme of the artist residency program developed by Galeria MOVART, which includes the MOVART Artist Residency and the NZinga Artistic Residency (MAR). Since being launched in 2023, the program has brought together artists from different parts of the world to share, produce, research and develop works together in Angola. ‘Reframe’ is an ideological language that seeks to create new perspectives on places, spaces and historical contexts. This language taken into the field of art allows for debate, artistic and curatorial reflection detached from the standard narrative on a given theme. In this context, the theme fits into the residency as part of the critical thinking that looks at the social fabric of Luanda, its components, history and futurism to create a new look at the city, but without dissociating its essence. The theme emerges as a creative trend that allows artists to look at Luanda as a piece of their production and critical process, exploring its entire composition, social structure, urbanity and interconnections to immerse themselves in their studios. Their ultimate goal is to give new meaning to Luanda and its entire social fabric.
The Reframe in Time exhibition includes the work of eleven artists: Jasi Pereira and Gabriela Marinho from Brazil; Gegê M´Bakudi, Irene Amosi, Evan Claver, Uolofe Griot, Oksana Dias, Isabel Landama, and Sarah from Angola; and Ryan Daniels from the United States. The multidisciplinary exhibition, which includes visual arts, video art, installation, woodcuts, engraving, sculpture and transfer, is curated by Marcos Jinguba.
