NEW ERA FOR HUMANITY

Ana Silva | Mário Macilau | Mónica de Miranda | Bruno Cattani | Binelde Hyrcan | Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf

Housed in a three-floor renovated building in Lisbon’s Marvilla Art District (MAD), are the works of an international selection of hailing artists from Portugal, Angola, Nigeria, Italy, Belgium, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Mozambique, and France. The works contained within include a range of media namely painting, photography, film, textile, sculpture, and installation.

The Subjects Covered in These Works are equally diverse: While Some Hone in the Human Form, such as Ana Silva and Mário Macilau, others, particularly Mónica de Miranda and Bruno Cattani and contemplates the possibilities of its presence there. Other artists such as Binelde Hyrcan bring into focus a core theme of the past fifteen months: movement and the restriction thereof. Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf oers comment on some of the more indulgent egocentric social media habits that have intensified since the beginning of social media, but especially during the pandemic.

This exhibition is simultaneously multidisciplinary and multivalent. It stretches time in all directions reminding us of where we were prior to the pandemic, what we experienced during the pandemic, and proers suggestions for new pathways as we hopefully move into a more healthy and harmonious state of being. It is an active exercise in community building that reminds us of the ideas and creative practices we had temporarily put on hold but are now ready to pick up again. It is a cautious acknowledgment to the universe that we are ready to reengage and reflect on our shared love and belief in the potency of art to inform a new way forward.
