Pamina Sebastião (Angola, 1988) is a multidisciplinary visual artist. Their award-winning work involves writing, audiovisual media, photography and collage from a decolonial and socio-imaginative perspective. Aside from her artistic career, Pamina is a jurist and holds a master’s degree in International Law and International Relations. Pamina’s pronouns are they/them.
They have dedicated themself to gender and sexuality activism, as they co-founded the feminist collective LBTIQ called Arquivo de Identidade Angolano (Angolan Identity Archive), WikiLuanda, a Wikipedia editing collective together with Jaliya The Bird and were part of the feminist Ondjango and the LINKAGES project.
Pamina’s artivist work proposes the (de)construction of the body as a possible imaginary of the decolonisation process. In this re- imagination, they try to find ways of sharing and learning about bodily experiences outside of the already created categories of existence. Their research brings together collective reflections on colonial trauma and the path to decolonisation as a way of not only dismantling the body as a place of inscription, but also of proposing new places of care. In this way, they explore the construction of an imaginary in which other forms of corporeal existence are possible. They received the Prince Claus Fund Award for his work on racial justice, gender equity and queer expression, within the disciplines of artistic research, performance and visual art.
