ALAIN RICHARD & KWAME SOUSA

In the photographic work of Alain Richard, the image is reduced to a threshold. Through precise calibrations of light, framing, and spatial tension, appearance remains partial—held in suspension rather than fully resolved.

Kwame Sousa’s work introduces a different intensity. His figures assert a presence that cannot be fully stabilized—shaped by lived experience and by the conditions through which they are made visible. Rooted in everyday life in São Tomé and Príncipe, these works situate the body within a field of social and historical forces, where visibility is both an affirmation and a form of exposure.

What unfolds is not a contrast between practices, but a continuous negotiation between what holds and what is held. Structure is no longer concealed, and appearance is no longer fixed.
