MOVART Gallery presents at ARCO Lisboa 2022 reflections on the concepts of the individual and the collective.
Rita GT , particularly connected and interested in notions of equality as it related to gender, the role of women and of bodies, RITA GT creates here a gesture that defies the silence women were, and are, conditioned by.
Fidel Évora, making use of the medium of digital collage, screen printing, and acrylic painting, the artist reflects on how our individual identity, how we see and understand ourselves, is always impacted by others.
Kwame Sousa, explores identity as a common theme throughout his body of work. The artist, by reliving the broader notion of black people’s empowerment, speaks to us about his own notion of self. By constantly asking us to rethink history, the artist asks: what if the history of the world had encompassed more black people and, in particular, black men? What if Jesus had been black? What would our world be like?
Keyezua, experiments with an abstract combination of sexual expressionism and cultural heritage. Keyezua’s art grows out of individual stories, depicted in films, paintings, poems and sculptures. She often uses photography techniques to express herself through images. She believes that an African artist can only break the African epidemic of stigma and image of prejudice in the media when artists break the silence in African art and expand their indigenous stories with a new vision of Africa, with this thought she portrays her stories to the world.
